Organic America is a land where nothing is what it seems. Looking at a woman with cropped hair in a hemp dress, you might assume she had eschewed a traditional female role. You would be dead wrong. In Organic America, a virtual land of purity, an unadorned woman is a devoted mother who finds it garish and selfish to apply makeup instead of attending to her child.
Here is a real-life conversation with an Organic Mom in the steamroom of my local gym. She: “My daughter was having such a difficult adjustment to highschool, she must have called me 20 times yesterday while I was on the shoot!” Me: “Wow, that must have been distracting.” She, dismissively: “Oh, I don’t care about that, I just felt so bad for her.” Me, sheepishly: “oh…of course”
